Day Camps

Genesee Country Village & Museum offers fun-filled programs to provide children with unique learning experiences.

The museum offers two summer programs for children: Summer Sampler and Earth Camp. Summer Sampler has an historical flavor, while Earth Camp – in a new format – emphasizes the natural world and our place within it. New classes for 2010 include My Side of the Mountain, Historic Fiction Comes to Life: Farmer Boy and Introduction to Spinning.

Fall Sampler in September provides homeschooled students the chance to make the museum their classroom for a week. This year, for the first time, there will be a class at the nature center in addition to classes in the historic village. Save $20 for each child age 8-17 or $10 for each child age 4-7 who registers for one class in Fall Sampler and one class in summer Earth Camp.

Knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff members run these programs to provide safe, supervised experiences for children. All programs mix fun with hands-on learning and creativity. Children enjoy our programs so much that they return year after year, and many become active participants in the museum’s special events.

Each weeklong class takes place Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the first sessions beginning the week of July 12 and the last sessions beginning the week of August 23. The cost is $175 for members and $200 for nonmembers. Save $20 for each child age 8-17 or $10 for each child age 4-7 who registers for one class in each summer program. Busing and extended care options are available.

Fall Sampler

These programs, tailored for homeschooled students age 4 and up, have been developed with parents’ input. Start the new school year with a week of experiences in the 19th century! On the first day of Fall Sampler, youngsters receive a loan of period clothing, which becomes their outfit for the week.

The classes below for children age 8 and older begin at 10 a.m. and end at 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, September 14-18. The cost is $200 per week for nonmembers and $175 per week for GCV&M members. Extended care, supervised by museum staff, is available from 9-10 a.m. and from 3-4:30 p.m.. Cost is $5 per child per session.

For times and costs of classes for children ages 4-7, please see individual program descriptions.
