VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Gallery Docents
With the reopening of the John L. Wehle Gallery, we are creating a Volunteer Docent Program to assist with answering questions and offering tours in the gallery. By definition a "Docent" is a museum volunteer who provides guided tours. The John L. Wehle Gallery is seeing Docents to greet visitors, provide engaging interpretation of the history and significance of the art & artifacts in the gallery collection, and offer tours. Interested individuals must have excellent communication skills, feel at ease giving presentations and working in front of a wide variety of individuals and groups, and be able to stand for periods of time.
Patricia Tice, Gallery Curator will be conducting an intitial 4 week training program for the core group of interested volunteers; addressing the various collections within the gallery. This training will be a combination of lecture, discussion, research and reading. At the completion o fthe training you will be assessed as to youir working knowledge of various objects and works of art in the collection and your comfortability in interacting with guests. Upon successful completion of the training program, you will be asked to schedule yourself on a regular basis as Gallery Docent.
If you have an interest in becoming part of our Gallery Docent Program please download and complete the Adult Volunteer Application at the top of this page. If you are a current museum volunteer interested in the Docent Program or if you have question, please contact the Volunteer Services Department at volunteers@gcv.org or call 585-294-8225.

Library Volunteers
We are making strides to have the Stuart Bolger Research Library more accessible to the public. With key volunteers identified we are recruiting a team of interested and skilled volunteers who will work with our curatorial staff to continue the work that has been started in categorizing, sorting, preserving and overseeing our collection of books and research materials.
