Father's Day
Sunday, June 20
10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Spend the day creating special memories with Dad.
Enjoy a variety of 19th-century sports and participatory games throughout the historic village, including a doubleheader of 1865 base ball at Silver Base Ball Park as the 2010 museum base ball season opens.
Watch a black-powder firearms target competition and a duel reenactment.
(In the 18th and early 19th century, dueling between gentlemen was a matter of honor when one party felt offended in some manner. Unlike the famous Alexander Hamilton-Aaron Burr duel, in which Hamilton was mortally wounded, most duels resulted in missed or purposely errant shots where neither party was injured and apologies were offered.)
At noon, two War of 1812 reanactors, after interpreting the dueling codes, will reenact a duel—and leave the dueling field unscathed.
Be sure to stop by the W. Grieve's Brewery and help our friendly brewery workers demonstrate the process of crafting the favorite drink of many Dads.
After you have worked up an appetite pumping water and grinding malted barley , be sure to visit the Depot Restaurant or Freight House Pub on the Great Meadow for a chicken barbecue, sandwich or snack,
If someone is thirsty, there is always the museum's own 1803 Fat Ox Ale on tap, craft-brewed for us by Custom BrewCrafters, plus a collection of ice cold soft drinks.
