Learning Programs

More than 25,000 students and teachers visit the museum each year for on-site learning opportunities. With the help of friendly interpreters in the historic village, students see history come to life as teachers use museum collections and experiences to help meet state learning standards in Social Studies; English Language Arts; Math, Science and Technology and more. Our interdisciplinary programs offer opportunities to link social studies with science and art through visits to the John L. Wehle Art Gallery and the Genesee Country Nature Center. Our outdoor science programs and guided nature treks put your students "in touch" with nature and provide opportunities for individual discovery.

In addition, we have designed an Educator’s Guide (6 MB) to make it easier to find the museum experience that best fits your needs and those of your students.

If you are a parent who has decided to take responsibility for educating your children through homeschooling, you'll find our immersive environments ideal for experiential hands-on learning. You may wish to consider approaching integrated learning and skill-building by creating your own focused tours of our historic craft, trade, domestic, business and agricultural settings. And of course, school group pricing applies to homeschooled groups as well.

Explore the options here, and then contact us to schedule your visit. Our educators will be happy to help you plan your visit. We all look forward to welcoming you to the 19th century.

Funding is available to cover the full costs of bus transportation to and from the museum for Rochester City School District classes in grades 2-8. Click here to learn more.
