JANUARY
Skiing in the Historic Village
Weekends, Noon-4 p.m.
Although the village buildings are closed up tight, we have chosen a few dates for the public to come and observe the beauty of the village in winter. Check-in is at the nature center.
Snow Buddies
Thursdays Jan. 14, 21 & 28, 1-3 p.m.
A special three-session nature class for children ages 4 & 5. Each class will introduce the children to the wonders of nature in winter through stories, crafts, nature walks and more. Snacks provided. Reservations required.
FEBRUARY

MARCH
Sap, Syrup, & Sugar
Weekends March 13-14, 20-21 & 27-28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Celebrate one of North America’s most unique historical traditions with self-guided walks through the sugar bush, 19th-century sugaring demos, modern syrup-making demos and tasting. We've taken our popular maple sugaring program and expanded it to all of the corners of the museum! Enjoy a pancake breakfast at the Meeting Center from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. each day (additional fee required). Crafts, demonstrations, and activities will take place at the nature center, in the historic village, and at the gallery. And don't forget about the tasting! Sample a variety of maple treats as you learn about sugar making in the 19th-century and today.
New this spring
Weekends March 13-14, 20-21 & 27-28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
Spend the day working side by side with one of our cooks, and learn how maple sugar was made in the 19th century. Be part of the show as you work by the outdoor fire at our sugar camp. Learn how to boil maple sap until it thickens into syrup. When it threads, it’s ready to be stirred into sugar! We will costume you in period clothing. Contact Maria Neale (585-538-6822) for details. Ages 16 to adult. ($75/$50 members per day)
SEPTEMBER
Creatures of the Night
Friday & Saturday Sept. 24 & 25, 6-9 p.m.
Bring the whole family for this guided woodland tour to meet some talking nocturnal “animals” as they dispel some of the myths and misperceptions surrounding them. Enjoy storytelling around the campfire, children’s activities, refreshments and more. Registration and pre-payment required.
OCTOBER
Mission: Wolf

Have a howling good time as you learn about wolf conservation and recovery efforts and meet live wolves from Colorado’s Mission: Wolf sanctuary. Wolf-y wares for sale include shirts, mugs, art, and jewelry so bring your wallet! All proceeds from gift sales go directly to wolf conservation efforts. (This program is not recommended for young children.) Reservations required.
