The cacophony of Scottish pipes. The grace of young kilted dancers, their slippered feet flirting with sword blades.

Hundreds of people, young and old, proud of their Scottish heritage, dressed in their colorful woolens. It’s the Genesee Highland Gathering on Sunday, June 8, at Genesee Country Village & Museum where the museum’s Great Meadow will be abustle with all things Scottish including:

• Concerts by pipe bands, including the Buffalo Caledonian Pipes and Drums, Niagara Regional Police Pipe & Drums, St. Catherine's Scottish Club Pipe Band and the Rochester Scottish Pipes & Drums, culminating in a performance by the massed bands.

• Clan representatives who march in a parade of tartans and offer information and advice on Scottish genealogy.

• An exhibition of sheep dogs at work.

• Highland dancers in the Great Meadow.

• Performances by folk harpist Mary Lester.

• Venders of Scottish foods and wares.

Meanwhile, in the historic village visitors will find:

• A first-person interpretation of Capt. Robert MacKay at his brother's village home.

• A demonstration of the sort of natural dyeing that went into creating the wool used in traditional tartans.

• Scottish foods cooking in every working kitchen .

• Children’s Highland games, including a haggis toss and caber toss.
