Two hundred years ago the Genesee Valley was the western frontier. Have you ever wondered what daily life would have been like for a pioneer family living in the Genesee Country in the early 19th century? How did they get by without the modern conveniences we take for granted? Could a modern family handle the pioneer lifestyle, even for just one weekend? The museum has selected five weekends this year to provide this unique experience, June 27-29, July 25-27, August 22-24, September 12-14 and October 17-19. Each month will feature a different theme this year highlighting activities that would be consistent with those experienced by pioneer families 200 years ago.
All participants selected will be required to attend a one-day training session the weekend before they arrive to sharpen their skills or learn the basics about animal husbandry, open-hearth cooking, gardening, carpentry and the other skills needed to survive 200 years ago. Participants will be selected based upon responses on their applications for Pioneer House. For information about applying, call (585) 538-6822. Adults $180, youth (age 8-16) $110 each. Family of four $500 |
