A craft that has thrived in both bustling commercial breweries and cozy home settings
Like today, brewing was undertaken in commercial settings as well as in the home. This workshop provides an experience with both. The 1800’s was a vibrant century, a time of transition from which the “arts and mysteries” of common culture were increasingly transformed into the science of industrialism. In this workshop you will actively participate in the recreated 1803 brewery of Walter Grieves to make a commercial scale batch. Meanwhile, in teams of two, you will also use modern equipment and an historical recipe to replicate a small, home-scale brew. Each participant will leave with a growler-sized jug of “wort” to ferment later on your own. The workshop will conclude in your modern home, as you “taste something 200 years old” (the rewards of your labor) and reflect on your historical experience.
Space is limited – reserve your spot today!
Location: Grieve’s Brewery
