Earth Day Homeschool Family Field Trip Day

Tuesday, April 22 | 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Calling all homeschool families!

Join us at the GCV&M Nature Center to celebrate the 55th anniversary of Earth Day with your family! Enjoy a day of fun and learning about our planet. Families who participate will: 

  • Take a guided 1.5 mile hike on our Web of Life Trail, where you can search for salamanders, visit a vernal pond, and explore the changes of spring! *This hike features slight elevation; path may be bumpy due to roots and rocks, but is relatively stroller-friendly.
  • Contribute to a fort village in the woods! Use sticks, stones, and other natural resources to add to your unique mark to our “fort village”
  • Dip nets into our educational ponds to discover what reptiles, amphibians, insects, and plants call them home
  • Plant seeds (donated by Fruition Seed Company) to watch grow and tend to at home
  • Make recycled arts and crafts
  • See a composting system in action and learn the ways your can start one at your own home
  • Play amphibian-themed games

FAQs

Can I go into the Historic Village?

This event takes place entirely at the Nature Center. The Historic Village will be CLOSED to all visitors. 

Are courtesy passes valid for this event?

No, courtesy passes are not valid for this event and will not be accepted. 

Do Museum Members need to purchase tickets to attend this event?

Yes. Because this is an educational event, Museum Members do need to purchase tickets to attend this Homeschool Day. 

Is there ample parking?

Parking is free and plentiful! Park in any of the main lots at the front of the Museum. Please leave the first two bays available for handicapped parking. 

Where do I check in?

You will check-in through the Admission tunnel at the front of the Museum. 

When should I check in for my breakfast seating?

You can check in as early as 10 a.m. to enjoy everything our Maple Sugar Festival has to offer! Homeschool-specific programming will begin at 1 p.m. 

How do I show my purchased tickets?

Please have your ticket(s) either printed out OR pulled up on your phone screen and ready for scanning for quick and easy check-in. Pro-tip: take a screenshot of each of your tickets to have ready and pulled up on your phone screen! Please note: Wifi can sometimes be spotty at the front of the Museum. 

is this event rain or shine?

Yes! This event is rain or shine. The Museum will only cancel in case of a severe weather emergency.

How should I dress?

Please dress for the predicted weather conditions and wear comfortable footwear for walking. Paths through the Historic Village are made of crushed gravel or bricks and can be uneven. 

Is this a guided tour?

The Web of Life Trail hike will be guided, and there will be staff members at each station. 

Are service animals welcome?

Yes! Leashed service animals are welcome with proper identification.

What if I need a refund for my ticket?

We’re sorry to hear that you’re not able to attend! Tickets may be refunded only up to 7 days prior to the event date and are strictly non-transferable by date, entry time, or program. 

Will tickets be available onsite?

Tickets for this event may be purchased onsite, only if available. Check the ticket page day-of to see the status of available tickets.
