A Journey That Started 400 Million Years Ago
Have you ever thought about how the Genesee Valley has changed over time? Our GCV&M naturalists will take you on a fascinating journey exploring soil erosion, fossils, biodiversity, and competition for natural resources.
Due to the complex concepts and activities, this program is recommended for homeschoolers age 11-18 and their guardians. The path in the woods is not wheelchair or stroller accessible.
Interactive Programming
Homeschooler students who participate will:
Join an inquiry-based hike through the Museum’s woodland and meadow habitats
Explore fossils to discover what they can tell us about the history of the land
Demonstrate the impact of erosion on the landscape using sand
Use an auger to make a soil core and uncover the layers and types of soil that settle over time
Play a game about competing for natural resources
