Scouts Landscape Architecture Merit Badge

Calling all scouts!

Attention Scouts! Join us in the Historic Village for our Landscape Architecture Merit Badge class. You will learn about the history and methods of landscape design, building, and planting from a professor of architecture at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Our historic gardens and hardscapes will serve as a living classroom and case study.

This class is led by a certified Merit Badge Counselor and meets all the requirements for your official merit badge. 

 

Please note: scouts are not required to have an adult chaperone; however, if you would like to accompany your scout, you must purchase an adult ticket.

FAQs

Who will teach the class?

GCV&M Merit Badge classes are taught by certified Merit Badge Counselors alongside additional staff or volunteers of the Musuem.

Is there ample parking?

Yes! Park in any of the main lots at the front of the Museum. Please leave the first two bays available for handicap parking.

Where do I check in?

Your instructor will meet you at the Admissions Booth at the front of the Museum. 

How do I show my purchased tickets?

Please have your ticket(s) either printed out OR pulled up on your phone screen and ready for scanning for quick and easy check-in. Pro-tip: take a screenshot of each of your tickets to have ready and pulled up on your phone screen! Please note: Wifi can sometimes be spotty at the front of the Museum. 

Is this event rain or shine?

Yes – this event is rain or shine! Please dress accordingly for the predicted weather conditions. We will cancel only in the case of thunderstorms or severe weather.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Please bring: 

  • Your blue card. 
  • A pen or pencil and a pad or notebook. 
  • Appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather – you will be outdoors for at least an hour or two, rain or shine. 
  • Lunch (or at least snacks) and water. A refrigerator and drinking fountain are available in the Nature Center.  
Can I bring my dog?

Leashed service animals are welcome with proper identification. 

How should I dress?

Please dress for the predicted weather conditions, as you will be walking outside. Village paths are crushed gravel and tend to be uneven; make sure to wear appropriate footwear. 

Are adult chaperones required?

Adult chaperones are not required for this class. However, if you would like to attend, you will need to purchase an adult ticket. Please keep it to one adult per scout. 

What else will be open?

The Historic Village, Nature Center, and Flint Hill Gift Shop will all be open to visitors from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.! 

The Depot Restaurant  will be open from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. (hot grill items available  until 3 p.m.). 

What if I need a refund for my ticket?

Tickets may be refunded only up to 7 days prior to the event date and are strictly non-transferable by date, entry time, or program.
