Spring Garden Teas

Join us for tea in the garden!

Join us for our series of Spring Teas set in the blooming Livingston Backus House garden!

Warm and cold summer-inspired teas will be served, along with savory bites and delicious sweet treats from our own Confectionery. Sit back and enjoy a refreshing raspberry-lemon mimosa (available for purchase) while we showcase 19th-century spring and summer fashion pieces inspired by our historical collections and costumed interpreters. Arrive dressed in your most impressive spring hat or fascinator for a chance to win a prize and be the belle or beau of the afternoon. We invite you to stroll the Historic Village or pop into the Flint Hill store for a little shopping before or after tea. 

Tickets are very limited – don’t miss out on this fun and relaxing afternoon in the garden!

Afternoon Tea Menu

 

SAVORY

  • Leafy spring mix salad with balsamic vinaigrette
  • Chicken salad sandwich bites
  • Table crackers topped with herbed cream cheese and cucumber

 

SCONES

  • Berry Scones
  • Real clotted cream
  • Fresh Jam

 

SWEETS

  • Iced Lemon cake
  • Rose cookies
  • Cream puffs

 

HOT TEAS:

  • Early Rose Tea (Earl grey tea with a hint of rose and lavender)
  • Sunshine Quench (Light tangerine/orange white tea)
  • Irish Breakfast (Irish black tea blend)

 

ICED TEA:

  • Lemon Dandy (Caffeine-free herbal iced tea blend)

 

Raspberry-Lemon mimosas are also available for purchase as well as a small selection of wine.  

Unfortunately, due to the nature of the menu gluten-free and vegan options are not available for afternoon tea.

FAQs

Does my ticket grant me access to the Historic Village?

Yes! The purchase of this ticket also grants you admission to the Historic Village, Nature Trails, and John L. Wehle Gallery for the whole day!

Is there ample parking?

Parking is free and plentiful! Park in any of the main lots at the front of the Museum. Please leave the first two bays available for handicapped parking. 

Where do I check in?

Check-in and programming for Tea will be at Livingston-Backus Garden. You will be checked in for Tea by name.

How do I show my purchased tickets?

Please have your ticket(s) either printed out OR pulled up on your phone screen and ready for scanning for quick and easy check-in. Pro-tip: take a screenshot of each of your tickets to have ready and pulled up on your phone screen! Please note: Wifi can sometimes be spotty at the front of the Museum. 

How does seating for a Tea work?

Spring Garden Tea has assigned seating! If you would like to sit with a friend but have purchased tickets separately, please reply to this email with your names, and we will make sure you are seated together.

is this event rain or shine?

Yes! This event is rain or shine. The Museum will only cancel in case of a severe weather emergency.

Are there places where I can sit down?

Feel free to bring a chair or blanket to sit on to watch the goings-on around the Great Meadow.  

Can dietery needs be met for this event?

Due to the nature of this event, special dietary and allergy restrictions cannot be accommodated. Thanks for understanding! 

How should I dress?

Be sure to wear your most impressive spring hat or fascinator for a chance to win a prize and be the belle or beau of the afternoon!

This event is being held outdoors. Please dress accordingly for the predicted weather conditions.

What are my other dining and shopping options?

The Depot Restaurant will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.! Stop by for a quick snack or beverage before or after Tea.

The Flint Hill Gift Shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.! Peruse village-made goods, GCV&M apparel, unique gift items, and so much more!

 

Will the trolley be running?

The trolley is available for guests on Wednesdays!

What if I need transport to the Tea location?

If you need transport to get back to Livingston Backus Garden, please alert the Admissions staff; they will alert security of your needs.

What if I need a refund for my ticket?

We’re sorry to hear that you’re not able to attend! Tickets may be refunded only up to 7 days prior to the event date and are strictly non-transferable by date, entry time, or program. 

Are service animals welcome?

Yes! Leashed service animals are welcome with proper identification.
