Winter Nature Sundays

Sundays in January and February | 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Winter is wonderful at GCV&M!

Beginning on Sunday, January 8, and running throughout January and February of 2023, the GCV&M’s Meeting Center and Nature Trails will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. for Winter Nature Sundays! 2023 Winter Nature Sundays will take place on January 8, 15, 22, 29, February 5, 12, 19, and 26.

Visitors can enjoy sledding on the Great Meadow, walks in the Historic Village (please note, paths may be slippery and buildings will not be open), snowshoeing in the wintery woods, cross-country skiing (please bring your own skis), warm beverages and snacks in the toasty Meeting Center, and more! Tickets for Nature Sundays can be purchased online in advance or at the door (check-in at the Meeting Center).

Sledding on the Great Meadow Hill

Join us any Sunday for an afternoon of sledding down the hill in the Great Meadow! Bring your own sled for races down the hill, paint the ground with snow paints, or build a nature’s friend a snowman complete with wildlife-friendly decorations.

Please call ahead for hill conditions: (585-294-8262).

Winter Walks in the Village

You are invited to walk the streets of the Historic Village and see the houses decorated with a layer of freshly fallen snow. Have a winter photo shoot, visit our year-round farm animals, or just appreciate the tranquility and beauty of the season.

Do you have your own cross-country skis? Bring them with you for a truly unique skiing experience in our 19th-century Village!

No snow? No problem!

In the absence of snow on Winter Nature Sundays, there will still be lots of great outdoor programming and opportunities to explore! Join GCV&M Naturalist and Director of the Nature Center Adam Henne for Winter Tree Identification Walks or Tracks & Scat Walks from 1 – 3 p.m. each Nature Sunday.

Make your way through our Nature Trails and learn how to identify local trees by bark, leaf, and other characteristics. Or, learn to identify the prints and scat of local wildlife. You will also receive an orientation to the trails here at GCV&M, and you can borrow a guidebook during the walk!

Snowshoeing in the Winter Woods

Have you ever wanted to try snowshoeing? This winter, join us at GCV&M to give it a try. One of our team members will get you fitted with a pair of snowshoes to borrow, and give you a quick lesson.

Then, you are free to explore the trails, even with a layer of snow on the ground. We have snowshoes available for all ages and shoe sizes. So bring a date, your best friends, or the whole family for a snowshoe adventure at GCV&M this winter!
