We invite you to tour spaces and buildings representing home\, civic\, social\, economic\, farm\, and religious life throughout the 1800s. \nBe sure to visit Nathaniel Rochester House (#12)\, open every day\, to delve into the real and often untold history of enslavement and freedom in the Genesee Country. \nHISTORIC COOKING & BAKING \nSee\, touch\, and smell what’s cooking in our historic kitchens! \nVisit Jones Farm (#14) to learn about 1850s farmhouse life\, where meals are prepared from the garden\, either fresh or preserved. \nStop into the Livingston-Backus House (#38)\, where the cook would have had access to the Public Market after the Erie Canal was built. \nHISTORIC TRADESHOPS \nVisit and talk with our trades folks who both practice and preserve timeless skills like pottery\, woodcraft\, ironwork\, quilting\, and more. \nAGRICULTURE & GARDENS \nA variety of heritage animal breeds can be found throughout the Village at the Hetchler House & Early Settlement Farm (#6)\, the Livery Barn (#11)\, and Jones Farm (#14). \nMake sure to explore historic gardens throughout the Village\, flourishing with both food and flowers! SUMMARY:Printmaking Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Printing images in the 19th century were made from woodcuts or engravings. In this one-day workshop participants will carve a 4×6 inch “linocut” and print it\, creating 5-10 custom greeting cards to take home. They will handset\, type\, and print an inside message using our Hoe Washington Hand Press. The image and message are of the participants choosing. \nThis workshop is designed for adults\, however ages 10 to 16 may attend with an adult. \nExpect to get inky\, so choose clothes accordingly. Please bring image ideas to the workshop. The image you carve will be reversed side to side when printed. Led by a knowledgeable historic interpreter\, you will encounter firsthand accounts from witnesses\, opportunistic politicians\, and everyday citizens\, each sharing their unique perspectives on this pivotal moment that indelibly transformed American politics. Don’t miss the chance to experience history come alive! \n\nThe Museum will close to the public between 4 p.m. – 5 p.m. so that we can reset for the evening; doors will open for After-Hours Tours at 5 p.m.\nYou will not be allowed into the Historic Village until/unless you are on your guided tour.\nTours will launch from the Freight House every 30 minutes.\nGuests will be on their feet for the duration of the tour and should be prepared to navigate stairs and uneven ground.\nPlease note food & beverages are not included in the cost of this ticket and require additional purchase.
