As a Nature preserve\, we have a unique environment which encourages an abundance of fireflies. Join us to learn more about them and their powers of bioluminescence\, right in their natural habitat. Bring your family for a guided evening hike across from our main campus in our Oatka Creek meadow\, a place visitors don’t normally get to see. Tours are led by naturalists with deep knowledge of these creatures. Before or after your tour\, enjoy a campfire and s’mores (weather permitting) and complete a firefly craft. \n\nThis event takes place at the Nature Center and at our Oatka Creek property. You will not be granted access to the Historic Village.\nWear boots or sturdy walking shoes.\nPants and long sleeves are recommended.\nWe will provide bug nets\, jars\, and guides for learning about fireflies.\nBe advised that Oatka Creek is just under a mile from the Nature Center building.

DESCRIPTION:Another fun-filled “night at the Museum”! Bring a bagged dinner for the evening\, then join us in our 19th century tavern for family-friendly beverages and treats\, play historical games\, make a Jack O’ Lantern nightlight\, and your own historical games. Before camping out for the night\, attend a slightly spooky guided tour in the 19th-century village\, and sit beside a campfire to roast marshmallows and share stories. In the morning\, join us for breakfast and coffee before we head out on a morning trail hike to enjoy fall foliage.
