Opening Day & Mother's Day

Opening Day & Mother's Day

Kick-off GCV&M's 2018 season on Opening Day May 12, or bring mom for an extra special Mother's Day on May 13. Join us as we celebrate the role of mothers throughout history. Watch the village come alive with springtime activities that will shower mom with love and affection!  Museum members FREE both days! Mothers FREE on Mother's Day! The museum will be open each day from 10:00am until 4:00pm.

General admission prices apply Saturday. Special event prices apply Sunday (moms free). Purchase tickets at the door.

Mother's Day festivities focus on two very important facets of 19th-century culture: fashion and farm life!

19th-Century Fashions

For women in the 19th century, there was an appropriate outfit or mode of dress for each occasion. Experience 100 years of changing women's and children's fashions as modeled by our local families. Throughout the day on Sunday, a lead interpreter from our historic village staff will guide small groups to different houses on a unique "Fashions Through Time Walking Tour." Times are TBD.

Life on the Farm

Springtime was an exciting time of year for 19th-century people. Babies were being born and there was planting to be done! Come visit our new baby lambs, see our young oxen Star and Bright, and help the farmers with chores around the Pioneer Farm.

See What We Have in Store for our 2018 Season

Chat with our knowledgeable costumed interpreters who keep the hearth fires burning, the heirloom gardens flourishing, and the livestock tended. You’ll hear the clanging of the blacksmith’s hammer, smell the aroma of fresh baked treats and truly experience life in the 19th-century. Interpreters — including cooks and craftsman — will be demonstrating their talents all day!

Looking for a unique gift for Mom?

A living history experience at GCV&M would give "Mom" an experience of a lifetime! You can choose from: Tinsmith Experience, Kitchen Experience, Cooper Experience, or Blacksmith Experience. A dining experience at Hosmer's Inn Tavern will delight the taste buds.

Saturday May 12 - Rug Hookers On Site

On May 12, 2018 we are partnering with the Rug Hookers Of The Finger Lakes to host their event “Hooked in History," an all day hook-in for their members with a display of antique and member rugs (including some from the museum's collection), specialty vendors and a guest speaker from Rug Hooking Magazine. Vendors include The Wool Studio, The Old Tattered Flag, and Honeydoo Cutters. Museum visitors coming to tour the museum for the day may stop in the Conference and Banquet Center and see the rug hookers while they're doing their craft and may also browse the wares available for sale. Those wishing to partake in the hook-in with the Rug Hookers of the Finger Lakes may purchase a ticket by registering in advance through their website. Note: this is a private rental of the museum's exhibition space and is not being hosted by museum staff. Please contact the hooking group directly with questions, or for more information and a registration form go to http://rughookersofthefingerlakes.weebly.com
