DESCRIPTION:See something very special happening in the Potter’s Shop located in our 19th-century Historic Village – we’re going to be firing the wood-fired kiln! \nGenesee Country Village & Museum is the only living history museum in the Northeast that fires salt-glazed stoneware in a wood-fired kiln as it was done in the 19th century. Join us on this exciting day to experience this unique historical happening! \nStarting early in the morning\, the kiln (filled with newly crafted ceramic pieces) will be bricked up and lit. The flames will be stoked continuously throughout the day. \nThe end temperature will reach nearly 2300°\, which will mature the clay\, turn the cobalt decoration into the traditional blue\, and create a glazed surface by introducing salt into the firebox during the last hour of firing. \nAfter cooling for quite some time\, these brand-new pieces will make their way to the Flint Hill Store and Village Mercantile\, where they will be available for purchase!

DESCRIPTION:Printing images in the 19th century were made from woodcuts or engravings. In this one-day workshop participants will carve a 4×6 inch “linocut” and print it\, creating 5-10 custom greeting cards to take home. They will handset\, type\, and print an inside message using our Hoe Washington Hand Press. The image and message are of the participants choosing. \nThis workshop is designed for adults\, however ages 10 to 16 may attend with an adult. \nExpect to get inky\, so choose clothes accordingly. Please bring image ideas to the workshop. The image you carve will be reversed side to side when printed. A note when planning your design: Words are difficult to carve. \nSpace is limited—reserve your spot today! \nLocation: Town Hall and Print Shop
