Programs for Scouts of all levels (BSA and Girl Scouts!)

Our scout programs offer unique, hands-on experiences for your troop. Whether your group wants to imagine life in the 19th century in our Historic Village or explore many discoveries on our wooded trails surrounding our Nature Center – GCV&M has much to offer! Girl Scout and BSA troops of all ages are welcome.

Options are listed below. Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Cost varies by program.

First Aid Scout Merit Badge Class

Sunday, April 21 | 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Join us on at our Nature Center for our First Aid Merit Badge Class on Sunday, April 21! This class will complete all of the requirements for the First Aid Merit Badge.

Scout: $35

Adult: $8

Orienteering Scout Merit Badge Class

Saturday, May 18 | 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Join us on at our Nature Center for our Orienteering Merit Badge Class on Saturday, May 18! This class will complete all of the requirements for the Orienteering Merit Badge.

Sustainability Scout Merit Badge Class

Saturday, June 8 | 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Join us on at our Nature Center for our Sustainability Merit Badge Class on Saturday, June 8! This class will complete all of the requirements for the Sustainability Merit Badge Class.

GCV&M Patch Program

Learn about the young child’s life in the 19th century through games and hands-on activities. The exploration may include a lesson at the Schoolhouse, a visit to the Pioneer Farm, time at an elegant home, and an activity with a Museum craftsperson. Boys will be loaned a 19-century costume at the start of the program.

Fee includes costume rental and an exclusive GCV&M patch for each scout. Please note: costumes are not available for adults.

Fee: $200 base fee covers 12 youth and 3 adults. Each additional youth is $15. Each additional adult is $7.

Program Length: 2 hours, typically 11:00-1:00

Levels: Cub Scouts, Daisy, Brownie, Junior

Playing the Past

(Junior Badge: Playing the Past)

Learn about the young girl’s life in the 19th century – while meeting the requirements of the Junior “Playing the Past” badge. Your experience will include a lesson in 19th century fashion, a craft, a hands on historic chore, and a chance to play 19th century games. Girls will be loaned a 19-century costume at the start of the program.

Fee: Base fee of $260 covers 12 youth and 3 adults. Each additional youth is $20 and each adult is $7

Level: Junior

Program Length: 3 hours, Typically 11:00-2:00

Fee includes costume rental and an exclusive GCV&M patch for each girl. Please note: costumes are not available for adults.

Naturalist Legacy: Flowers

(Junior Badge: “Flowers”)

Did you know GCV&M is home to over a dozen heirloom gardens? Take a tour of a selection of the beautiful gardens, and learn how the Shakers grew herbs to make medicinal remedies, make a tussie-mussie with a secret message, and help create a homemade herbal hand salve to take home. Girls will be loaned a 19th-century costume at the start of the program.

Fee: Base fee of $260 covers 12 youth and 3 adults. Each additional youth is $20 and each adult is $7

Level: Junior

Program Length: 3 hours, Typically 11:00-2:00

Fee includes costume rental and an exclusive GCV&M Flowers patch for each girl. Please note, costumes are not available for adults.

Letterbox Program

(Brownie Badge: Letterboxer)

Fulfill requirements for the Letterboxer Badge with this program! A naturalist will help you discover letterboxing, a 19th-century recreational sport. Learn the terminology, make your own letterboxing log book and stamp, and go on a letterboxing adventure.

Fee: Base fee of $260 covers 12 youth and 3 adults. Each additional youth is $20 and each adult is $7

Level: Brownie

Program Length: 3 hours, typically 11:00-2:00

Build a S'more Campfire & Night Hike

The naturalist-led program includes an evening walk on the Nature Center’s trails to experience nature at night. Then enjoy time relaxing around the campfire, and build your own version of the classic campfire snack – S’mores! Mix and match ingredients are provided. 

Fee: Base fee of $200 covers 12 youth and 3 adults. Each additional youth is $15 and each adult is $7

Levels: All levels

Program Length: 2.5 hours, typically 5:00-7:30

Overnight

This overnight program includes a guided hike on our nature trails and a nighttime campfire complete with s’mores. Scouts can even try their hand at some 19th century games and see what entertained kids before the days of TV and videogames. Troops can choose to sleep inside the Nature Center, or bring tents to overnight in the great outdoors. Fee includes continental breakfast. 

Fee: $600 base fee covers 12 youth and 3 adults. Each additional youth is $45. Each additional adult is $20.

Program Length: 5:00 PM – 10:00 AM

Troop Group Rates

Visit the Genesee Country Village & Museum, and self-guide during our regular season (mid-May through mid-October) with your group of 20 or more Scouts (youth and adults) to receive a special group rate. A reservation must be made before the date of your visit. Please call (585)-294-8254 for more information or fill out the form above to make a reservation.
