Youth Classes & Family Experiences
Your kids have never had more fun than at GCV&M!

Check out our new classes and experiences!

Does your child love being outside? Do you wish they would spend more time exploring the forest than the internet? These adventures will give your child a chance to discover all that the GCV&M has to offer, all year round. Whether they enjoy hiking, crafting, fishing, imaginative play, exploring the Historic Village, or wading in the creek we have something for everyone!

Myths and Monsters

This brand new weekend camp is the perfect opportunity for your 7 to 12 year old to unleash their imagination while exploring the woods at GCV&M. Come join us to search for bigfoot, study mythology, and hear local legends around the fire. This camp runs for 3 Saturdays from 1pm – 4 pm

Woodland Fairy & Elf Academy

Woodland Fairy and Elf Academy is an opportunity for your 4 to 8 year old child to get in touch with their inner fairy (or elf) and gain outdoor experiences that will last a lifetime. Children benefit from a connection to the natural world around them. Fairy Rosie is happy to help your little one discover everything the Genesee Country Nature Center has to offer during these magical weekend classes.

Nature Sunday Experiences

The Genesee Country Nature Center building and trails will be open Sundays throughout the season for a suggested donation of $5. The Genesee Country Nature Center is an outstanding natural area with hundreds of acres of woodlands, meadows, ponds, old fields, fascinating geologic formations, plants, and animals. Visit the Nature Center every Sundays from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. for an independent hike, free snowshoe rentals or a family-friendly sledding experience.

Fishing at Lake Surprise

Does your child love fishing? Have they always wanted to try? Join us for this special guided adventure to Lake Surprise, on our private Oatka creek property, to allow visitors a chance to try their hand at fishing. Maybe you will land a sunfish, bass, or even the elusive carp. Although we may catch some large fish, they will all be released by the end of the experience.

Wading in the Oatka Creek

A creek is a wonderful place to play. Bring your family for a guided hike to the Oatka Creek, and spend the afternoon skipping stones, splashing, and looking for crayfish. To get to the creek, participants will get the opportunity to hike the trails of our private Oatka Creek property.

Firefly Fridays

Fireflies, also known as lightning bugs, glowworms, or members of the Lampyridae family, are magical little creatures. Come join us to learn more about them and their powers of bioluminescence, right in their natural habitat. Bring your family for a guided evening hike across our Oatka Creek meadow, behind the scenes of the Museum.
