Join us any Sunday for an afternoon of sledding down the hill in the Great Meadow. If there is snow, check in at the Nature Center between 1 – 3 p.m. to join the frozen fun. Bring your own sled for races down the hill, paint the ground with snow paints, or build a nature’s friend a snowman complete with wildlife-friendly decorations.
Please call ahead for hill conditions: (585-294-8262).
Winter Walks in the Village
You are invited to walk the streets of the historic village and see the houses decorated with a layer of freshly fallen snow. Have a winter photo shoot, visit our year-round farm animals, or just appreciate the tranquility and beauty of the season.
Do you have your own cross-country skis? Do you love to explore the outdoors in the winter? Well, bring your skis to the GCV&M Nature Center! With miles of trails of varying difficulty, you are sure to enjoy your time in the winter woods.
Please call ahead for trail conditions (585-294-8262), and check in at the Nature Center Building before heading out on your adventure.
Snowshoeing in the Winter Woods
Have you ever wanted to try snowshoeing? This winter, join us at the GCV&M Nature Center to give it a try. One of our Nature Sunday team members will get you fitted with a pair of snowshoes to borrow, and give you a quick lesson around the Nature Center lawn.
Then, you are free to explore the trails, even with a layer of snow on the ground. We have snowshoes available for all ages and shoes sizes. So bring a date, your best friends, or the whole family for a snowshoe adventure at GCV&M this winter!
Web of Life Winter StoryWalk™
On this winter StoryWalk™ you and your family will explore the trails of the GCV&M Nature Center while reading the storybook A Warm Winter Tail by Carrie A. Pearson (illustrated by Christina Wald). Independently walk the Web of Life trail on Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., after checking in at the Nature Center. How do animals keep warm in the winter? Take this StoryWalk™ to find out!
