Stroll the Historic Village where preparations are underway for the cold season ahead. Students will learn about how the needs and duties of 19-century New Yorkers shifted as they prepared for the season to come. See traditional crafts, harvesting tasks, winterizing homes, and food preparations in the 200-year-old historic kitchens.
Activities include:
- Make a candle to take home
- Taste popcorn using a 19th century popcorn popper, cooked over a hearth
- Listen to a Haudenosaunee storyteller share seasonal stories
- Assist with a 19th century “receipt” in a historic kitchen
- Learn how to store smoked meats and sausage through the winter without refrigeration
