Programs for Scouts of all levels (BSA and Girl Scouts!)
Our scout programs offer unique, hands-on experiences for your troop. Whether your group wants to imagine life in the 19th Century in our Historic Village or explore many discoveries on our wooded trails surrounding our Nature Center – GCV&M has much to offer! Girl Scout and BSA troops of all ages are welcome.
Space is limited, pre-registration is required, and cost varies by program. (2026 prices reflect comparable programs at area organizations.)
GCV&M Patch Program
Learn about the young child’s life in the 19th Century through games and hands-on activities. Visit the Early Settlement Farm, learn a lesson in the Schoolhouse, and spend time at an elegant home. Scouts will be loaned a 19-century costume at the start of the program (costumes are not available for adults). Plus: take home a unique GCV&M patch!

BSA Merit Badge Classes
GCV&M offers classes by certified counselors to assist scouts in learning and meeting the requirements for select merit badge subjects. Counselors are currently certified to teach:

Playing the Past
(Junior Badge: Playing the Past)
Learn about the young girl’s life in the 19th Century – while meeting the requirements of the Junior “Playing the Past” badge. Includes a lesson in 19th-century fashion, a craft, a hands-on historic chore, a chance to play 19th-century games, and a loaned 19-century costume! (Costumes not available for adults.)

Naturalist Legacy: Flowers
(Junior Badge: “Flowers”)
Did you know GCV&M is home to over a dozen heirloom gardens? Take a tour of a selection of the beautiful gardens, learn how the Shakers grew herbs to make medicinal remedies, make a tussie-mussie with a secret message, and help create a homemade herbal hand salve to take home. Girls will be loaned a 19th-century costume at the start of the program and will take home a custom patch. (Costumes not available for adults.)

Letterbox Program
(Brownie Badge: Letterboxer)
Fulfill requirements for the Letterboxer Badge with this program! Discover letterboxing, a 19th-century recreational sport, learn terminology, make your own letterboxing logbook and stamp, and go on a letterboxing adventure.

Campfire & Night Hike
This naturalist-led program includes an evening walk on the Nature Center’s trails to experience nature at night, time relaxing around the campfire, and S’mores!
*Can be paired with Bear Habitat Cub Scout Adventure.

Overnight
Genesee Country Nature Center’s overnight program includes a guided hike and a nighttime campfire complete with S’mores! Scouts can even try their hand at some 19th century games and see what entertained kids before the days of TV and videogames. Choose to sleep inside the Nature Center or bring tents to overnight in the great outdoors.
*Includes S’more ingredients, continental breakfast, and general admission to the Museum.

No! The cost of admission to the Historic Village and Nature Center are included with all Scout programs. Please see our Admission page for current hours.

Yes! GCV&M’s Nature Center staff and volunteers are certified counselors for the classes we offer. If you’d like the name of the counselor for an upcoming class, email scouts@gcv.org.
Parking is free and plentiful! Park in any of the main lots at the front of the Museum. Please leave the first two bays available for handicapped parking.
Check in location varies among Scout programs. You will receive communication prior to your visit with instructions.
GCV&M asks for a deposit in the amount of the base fee for the program within two weeks of receiving the contract, after which the dates will be available for other troops/programs to book.
Merit Badge classes are paid in full at the time of ticket purchase.
Yes! The Museum will only cancel by order of Monroe County.
If that does happen, we will be in touch with all purchasers via email and/or phone, and put messaging on all of our social media and web pages.
If you need to change or cancel the date of your GCV&M Scout group program:
- Three or more weeks prior: full refund of your deposit minus $50 administrative fee; option to reschedule within the same calendar year. Additional per Scout registration fee fully refundable.
- One to three weeks prior: Refund of 50% of registration deposit; option to reschedule within the same calendar year (If GCV&M offers dates that are rejected by your group, refund of 50% will be granted).
- One day to one week prior: Refund of 50%, no option to reschedule. (Rebooking a date with us will be considered a new registration without ability to apply original deposit.)
In the event your program is canceled by GCV&M, we will make every effort to reschedule with you or refund your program in full.
