Add a Virtual Background
1. Download the image you would like to use as background. Remember where you save it on your device!
2. Start the Zoom app.
3. At the bottom left of your screen, you’ll see a video camera icon. Click the carrot next to this icon to open the menu, and select “choose virtual background.”
4. Click on the “+” symbol to add an image, and navigate to the background you downloaded.
5. Once the image is selected, it should automatically become your virtual background. Now, you can close the dialogue box by selecting the “x” in the upper right corner.
Switch Screen Views
When participating in an event or webinar, you have the option to view content in two different ways – Speaker view, or Gallery view. While engaged, Speaker view will fill the Zoom window with the image of whomever is currently speaking. You will still be able to see other users in a smaller, scrolling set of thumbnail images. Gallery view allows you to view all participants, regardless of who is speaking, in a grid of thumbnail images. The thumbnail image representing the current speaker will appear highlighted. You can toggle between these options as desired with the button at the top, right-hand corner of the Zoom application.
Using Chat & Nonverbal Responses
During the event, your hosts may periodically mute participants for facilitation purposes. While you will be able to unmute yourself, there are other ways to communicate with the host(s) and fellow participants.
By selecting the “Chat” icon from the menu at the bottom of your screen you can:
1. Communicate with the entire group
2. Ask for help and submit questions privately to your moderator.
By selecting the ” Participants” icon from the menu at the bottom of your screen you can choose from several nonverbal feedback options, including thumbs up, applause, break, “yes”, and “no.”
Need a Break?
For added privacy, disable your video by selecting the video camera icon and mute your audio. You can also leave the event by choosing “Leave” at the bottom right of your screen. If you accidentally leave the meeting, login again, and we will re-admit you.
