Arrival & Departure
Family Fun Days
Parking will be in the main lot, and we will check you in at the Admissions tunnel.
- Check-in: Arrive at 10:00 a.m.
- Enjoy a fully guided experience that is fun for the whole family, with lots of opportunities for hands-on experiences
- Check out is at 3:00 p.m. at which point you will have an hour to freely explore until the Museum closes
Family Overnights
Parking will be in the main lot, and we will check you in at the Admissions tunnel.
- Check-in: Arrive at 5:00 p.m.
- Enjoy a fully guided experience that is fun for the whole family, with lots of opportunities for hands-on experiences
- Snuggles into your sleeping bags between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m.
- Enjoy breakfast and coffee between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m.
- Take a guided hike through our beautiful nature preserve
- Check out is at 10:00 a.m. at which point you may head home or continue to explore the Museum with a free courteously pass
What to Bring
One-Day Family Camp
Family camp is an active, outdoor program and will be held rain, snow, or shine! Please bring/wear:
- Comfortable clothes and be dressed appropriately for the weather (i.e., raincoat or boots, jacket and hat, etc.)
- Close-toed shoes or sneakers are preferred, please no flip flops, sandals or shoes that cannot get dirty
- Lightweight, long pants or leggings are recommended due to insects and the presence of poison ivy
- For summer programs, apply beforehand or bring insect repellent and sunscreen.
- Bring a lunch! The Depot Restaurant will be open, but it’s quicker to open your brown bag or lunchbox, so we recommend packing something from home.
Family Overnights
Spending the night at the Museum is a magical experience! Click on the + next to each question below for more information about what to expect and bring.
- Evening snack and light breakfast (please bring your own dinner if you’d like more than snacks)
- 19th century, family-friendly, tavern experience
- Hands on activities, including historical games for all ages
- Guided seasonal historic village tour
- Campfire and S’mores
- Morning trail hike
- Sleeping Bag
- Air mattress/sleeping pads
- Pillow
- Tent (optional)
- Flashlight (optional)
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Washcloth
- Warm, comfortable clothing to sleep in
- Ear plugs (optional)
- Phone charger (optional)
Guests will have the choice to pitch their own tents outside of our Nature Center and surrounding our peaceful ponds. Guests without tents can also enjoy the indoor space in our Nature Center.
In the evening, we will provide modern and historical soft drinks in the tavern with pretzels and goldfish crackers.
In the morning, we will provide a light breakfast including fruit, cereal, muffins, coffee, tea, and juice.
The Freight House Pub will be open from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. for beverages and light fare.
Yes! Please bring your dinner and enjoy it in the designated eating area. We will only provide light snacks in the evening. No food or beverages will be allowed outside of designated areas.
Yes! Admission to the Museum for the following day is included. Please be sure to go through the admissions booth for a hang tag, which will get you access to rest of the Museum.
Whether you are planning to depart in the morning or you choose to stay to visit the day after your sleepover, please plan to pack your sleeping items in your car before we set out on our hike at 9:00am.
GCV&M is not responsible for lost or stolen items and we pride ourselves in a screen-free experience. Please leave electronics and other expensive or otherwise precious items at home.

Did you know? You and your family can visit the Museum and experience a slice of camp year-round. The Museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during summer camp weeks, but open to the public Wednesday – Friday. Please check www.gcv.org for updated hours of operations, special programs, and access.
