Quilted Hood
Clothing/Dress/Costume
Girl's hood of brown silk twill, wadded with cotton, and lined with napped cotton flannel in mottled green and white. Made to hug the head, with no bavolet or standing brim. The silk is ruched in tucks that run from the top of the face to the back of the neck on either side of center, and in tucks that run around the face and down the sides of the hood; the lines of quilting follow these tucks. Separate piece of silk twill at the top of the head, made to resemble a bow. The lining is made in three parts: a center piece and two sides. A white cotton band runs around the inside of the front edge, apparently once holding a net frill. Ties of off-white ribbed silk ribbon. Hand sewn.
