Quilted Hood
Clothing/Dress/Costume
Quilted bonnet hood of brown silk taffeta, faced with black silk taffeta, lined with dark green glazed/polished cotton and black cotton. Brim is quilted in diagonal lines that run from front back to crown seam; crown is quilted in vertical lines. Front edge, which is piped in black silk, is turned back, with a stiff wire inserted in the fold to keep the hood's shape at the face. A bias-cut band of brown silk, wadded and quilted into four thick channels, is placed around the crown on the brim. Bavolet is gathered to brim, with a black silk ribbon bow placed on seam at center back. Black silk ribbon ties. Hand sewn.
