Large shawl made from a fine sheer silk, with woven tone-on-tone stripes and intersecting lines. Edges sport fringe of self silk, netted into three rows. Excellent condition. Possibly Quaker. Relates to note: "From Elizabeth S. Kite / the shawl is at least / two hundred years old. / inherited by our aunt / Huldah Hoag Brinell - / from the Morris Family / of Germantown, whose / residence was used as / [capital?] of when Washington / was obliged to leave / Philadelphia when / the British took possession / of the latter city. / Ithaca June 1957"
