Delivery Wagon
Object/Artifact
One U.S. mail wagon originally used in Westfield, Pennsylvania on R.F.D. 3. It was operated by Dorr Thomas (1887-1950), grandfather of the donor, as early as 1910 and as late as the 1940's. It was manufactured in Peoria, Illinois by the Harrington Manufacturing Company. The body is painted a forest green with black (and some red) trim. The chassis, wheels and thills are painted red with decorative black striping. The donor states that originally the wagon had a set of sleigh runners that could be used in winter months but these were discarded a number of years ago.

According to the city directories, Harrington Manufacturing appears to have existed from 1905 until 1929. Originally it was listed as a manufacturer of rural mail wagons and changed with the times to auto supplies. The business was located at 1820 Washington, then in 1907 was in the 1500 block of N. Adam; in 1922 the company opened operations in a second location on Main Street which seems to have been the auto supplies business. Finally the last mention of Harrington is as an auto supplies business at 204 Main.
