Buckle, Shoe
Object/Artifact
Pair of cast and chased silver English shoe buckles, with simple stamped ring pattern; rounded rectangle shape. Steel prongs. Possibly a woman’s but might be a youth’s or a man’s. Seem a bit large on the pair of shoes we bought them for. Marked with lion rampant and initials S.A, possible Stephen Adams, c1760. Also the initials EF or EE are scratched on the back on one side, and IF on the other. In a purple silk lined bucke box covered with black leather, with an early sticker on the back, probably 19th century.
