Key, S.A. Hosmer

A key unearthed in a field on Hosmer Road, Churchville, New York (at that time part of Mumford). They key has a tag that is engraved, "Rochester City Hospital Return to S.A. Hosmer Mumford".

We believe this key belonged to Sidney Ashbel Hosmer (1856-1944), son of Willard S. Hosmer (1929-1911). The donor of the key stated that her grandmother lived in the cobblestone home on Hosmer Road. The home at that address was built in 1838. Willard and Sydney lived on Hosmer Road and Willard's obituary states he lived for more than 80 years in the cobblestone house built by his father, Ashbel A. Hosmer, in 1838. The key was found in a field near the house. These Hosmer's are distant cousins to Sylvester Hosmer of Hosmer's Inn located here at the GCV&M.
