Decoy
Driftwood base. 2 wooden decoys 2 Tin decoys Tin decoy is constructed from two halves latched together with small metal rings along one side at head and tail ends. A and B are identically painted on exteriors of both halves: birds' upper bodies are painted brown with white and black spots; gray underbellies; black eyes and beaks. Both are printed with patent information on one interior side: "PAT. OCT. 27, 1874" in yellow ink. These folding decoys were intended to be more convenient for carrying to a hunting site than a conventional set of decoys. This pair of decoys was made by a company owned by Herman Strater Jr. and William Sohier of Boston. Their patent was for "Decoy-Birds for Sportsmen."

Flying Duck Decoy
Duck in flying position with wings outstretched. Wood on body is roughly finished. Strip on top of head and strip around eyes are painted dark brown, head is tan, top of beak is dark green. Wood body, canvas wings, and glass eyes make up the sculpture. Stick and half log wood base.

Solid body. Head and body painted black. Wing tips and lower sides painted greyish white. Bill painted bluish black. Feathers painted in on back in greyish white. Glass eyes: yellow with black pupils. Peice of wood marked "12" under tail. 5 small nails in bottom and paint shows where weight should be placed.

Hooded Merganser
