Clothing/Dress/Costume

Entirely hand-stitched girl's dress made of block-printed cotton. The pattern consists of cream ground with red, black, purple, and green cartoonish designs of rectangles and skyscrapers arranged in columns, alternating a green vermicelli ground with a tan striped one. High-waisted. Skirt gathered (but smooth across front) into set in the waistband. The center front bodice gathers at the center front waist, and has applied corded bias strip at the side back ‘seam'. Back opening with large brass hooks and eyes. Narrow yoke in front, piped edge with self-fill all around to back opening. Wide bound neckline. Long, full sleeves gathered into cuff band closed by hook and thread loop; the upper sleeve is tightly shirred with a self-frill at the base of the area. Tuck above the hem. The bodice and upper sleeves are lined with heavy cotton; the hem is faced with sturdy white cotton.
