2-piece 1890s walking dress made from a brown silk (warp) and wool (weft) plain weave fabric. Bodice - CF opening of buttons, cut steel (1 missing), with pleated "fans" on either breast. High round neckline, unusual or 1890s, perhaps adapted or collar is missing (?). Sleeves are very full at shoulder and bicep, and narrow to slit-wrist opening. No cuff. Waistband of pleated self fabric, with bows present at CF waist closure, Cb waist, and one large bow CB of neckline. Bodice is lined with printed cotton in a windowpane pattern, and open-weave cotton lining sleeves. Stays sewn in across waist in bodice. Waist tape of cotton duck tape has been widened. Underarm protectors are inserted inside of bodice. Skirt - skirt is made from shaped panels. No train at hem. A few knife pleat gathers at skirt waistband CB. Waistband is made from same cotton windowpane fabric as bodice lined with. Skirt itself is lined with glazed cotton in brown, with twill braided tape at hem. Hook and eye closure at CB waistband. Minimal discoloration for soiling.
