Maternity dress, entirely hand stitched, made of silk pongee dyed with logwood, apparently - perhaps originally an eggplant color. Possibly a Chinese import. Bodice with brown cambric lining has high waist, higher in front and without bust darts or gathers; large rounded neckline, CF opening, and old-fashioned shoulder (pieced) pieces, but the back seams are right for the date. Full-length gigot sleeves pleated into the armscye and taken in on the seam maybe in period. Skirt is neatly pleated all around and fastens on the proper right side; Waist is quite large in proportion to bust and rib cage. The waist seam is neatly finished or reinforced with a colored pattern-woven tape. Another one that seems to be Quaker because of its well-mannered pleating, and slightly out-of-step feeling. A very agreeable and obliging fabric that seems to retain a sizing or finish of some kind.
