A entirely handstitched cotton pillowcase with a small design of a hummingbird and morning glories, "No.6" and the name Lucinda Lincoln are neatly inked down. the open side has a 1/2" weaved pattern. Matches the sheet 2014.018.53

Entirely hand-stitched child’s pinafore made of what appears to be brown Holland cut on the bias, but it is very lustrous white alpaca weft on a nankeen (dyed or natural) cotton warp (microscope identification). Straight smooth front; unshaped except for a skirt gore at the side and back. Short wide petal sleeves set so the front has to be the straight, smooth side. Full length back opening with 4 decorative pearl buttons. Trimmed with white tape around edges and gores.

Rich emerald green shot silk taffeta pinafore. This is remade from an adult dress. Smooth bodice with a peak in low center front neckline. Sweeping up into widely set; narrow shoulder straps. A center back closure with domed self-buttons. Round waistline. Widely flaring, gored skirt, 5 panels. Widely scalloped hemline finished with an applied frill; top and bottom edges with scallops. The neckline finished with a narrower version of the same. Bodice lined with tan cotton, skirt with green glazed cotton.

Waistless except for gathering at the hip level on sides and back. Very short frilled sleeves. Piping in armscyes and hip seam. This is distinctive because it 'zigzags' around the body. The center back closes with 5 red Calico buttons.

Little boy’s pinafore made of lightweight indigo blue cotton printed with orange and white spots. High drawstring neckline. Long tubular sleeves, hip length. Back closure with 4 decorative MOP buttons. The buttons also dot the waistband along the side and back into which the skirt is gathered. The front floats free, fitted with a tape stay across the front inside. Small horizontal slit pockets worked into the gathers at the side front. Below the waistband, with buttons on the corners and center of the opening. The front appears longer, apparently meant to blouse at the waist.

Tiny girl’s made of black silk taffeta overskirt / pinafore. Pinner front with straps that gather into the waistband that closes at the side front. This is identical in the back. No fasteners. Apron-like skirt section in front; longer one in back. These are joined at sides by similar shorter side panels. All pieces are bordered with ruched taffeta strips bound with narrow black velvet ribbon.

Upper is black with red and blue/yellow; lower is black and red, with blue threads in selvage (observed by holding it up to a strong light). Front is lined with pieced cottons, one appears homespun.

Entirely hand stitched white dimity pocket, ribbed with diaper pattern; cotton plain weave backing. Trapezoid shape. Mounted on 1/2” PW linen tape with one long (right side) and one short extension for tying.

Entirely hand stitched pocket, wide and shallow. Made of 1.5” squares of what appears to be two indigo resist prints alternating with dimity. Edges bound with blue print. Lined and backed with homewoven linen. Attached ties are probably c1900 flat silk braid.

Watch pocket, teardrop shaped with curved pocket edge. Canvas or Berlin work with raised chenille flowers and leaves on twigs. Edged with twisted green and yellow silk cord. Back with dark yellow cotton sateen.

Watch pocket, Haudenosaunee, made in vague shape of an oak leaf— a teardrop shape with scalloped edges, of red wool. The edge was bound with green silk and bordered with 2 rows of translucent milky white beads on either side of 2 rows of transparent yellow ones. There remain a few white beads near the top suggesting they formed edging originally. Remains of clear bead loops at the bottom. Upon the basic shape, a padded disc of red wool is covered with concentric rows of translucent opalescent white beads having 2 rows of yellow one's half-way in. Its outer edge has a zig-zag net effect worked down the sides. It rests upon a slightly larger circle of violet-blue silk edged with white beads, that forms the watch pocket. Filling in the triangular space above the circle is a solid leaf shape with a pair of scrolls at the base on either side, also opalescent white and yellow. The pocket is lined with blue glazed cotton, and the back of the piece is backed with tan glazed cotton.

Unfinished queen-stitched pocketbook. Sky blue, pine green, pink diamond pattern on red ground. Lined with medium green silk lustering [?]. Center section unattached, sides not joined. Squared pointed flap. Green ribbon has been stitched around flap edges and the remainder is enough to complete the job.

Queen stitched in colored silks, strawberry and trellis design in shades of red and green. Wavy edged flap; lined in red and black plaid silk; bound with green silk tape. Two sections inside.

Two covers (each with different design) lined with thin pink silk forming a pocket on each, to receive the ten cards 2) (a-j) Ten cards bearing engraved embroidery designs for the likes of handkerchiefs, pelerines, collars, etc. No marks. About 2” x 3”

Cotton velvet, small white bud pattern with worm ground on brown. Backed with brown chintz with dark brown and yellow buds/sprays. Bound with brown silk. 6" square

Note with envelope detailing the six Roman stripe ribbons. Envelope states in hand-written ink: "Roman ribbons sent from Haley by Aunt Florie Freeman to Peggy." Note states in hand-written pencil: " Roman stripped [sic] ties or sash possibly imported before Civil War by Peter Wilder Freeman."

Beaded purse made of 2 plain-weave cotton or linen. Trapezoidal-shaped sections covered with beaded patterns are sewn on. Crystals decorate the ground of the purse. One with a lavish cornucopia, and the other with a rose on a field of buds. The top is decorated with a golden yellow dagged border centered with a Greek key motif. The edges were finished with a once-green decorative braid. Interlined with buckram fabric. Lined with red silk surah forming a pocket on each side. The braid was sewn on after the red lining was installed. Unsure how the bag part was attached-at first. It is speculated that the braid and silk were a 1920s re-purposing. Speculated the beads are German as many beaded purses were.

Purse made of beige linen. Bound in the natural cord. Cross-stitched design on the sides and cross-stitched stripes in the center in a salmon / red / green. A singular MOP button. Lined with silk.

Blue and gold with brass rings; crocheted.

Small beaded purse. Blue / yellow / green / crystal beads on red ground. Blue beaded fringe. Dark blue silk tape. Lined with blue cotton. Hook and eye closure.

Pocketbook, ivory silk edged with stiff silver cord extending at the point of the flap into a 16.5” loop. Edges bordered with a green wavy vine with tiny leaves. Back has embroidered image of a memorial urn set in a grassy field near a sapling, with an oval cartouche leaned against an urn, bearing the initials CP. Front has an abstract basket containing a bouquet of freesias (?), forget me nots and berries. It is either incomplete or worn since the pencil design shows in places. The inside has two compartments, all lined in emerald, green silk.

Small miser’s purse made of fine netted silk. Worked with alternating white and greenish-gray bands with simple lacework near the center, and dainty printed rosebuds at each end. Short tassels at each end are made of fancy white silk threads and heavy fancy cords with stiff twisted elements that appear to incorporate (tarnished) silver. The top mold is wrapped with white silk overlaid with a net. The sliders are wrapped with bands of pink and green silk worked over with netting, like the tassels.

Reticule with flat, rounded pouch shape, mounted on an ornamental silver frame with silver chain. The body is made of a fine golden tan silk canvas with silk Berlin work designs on each side. One side has a large floral spray across the bottom, in shades of green, gold, pink, and blue. The design consists of a theme of roses, marigolds, morning glory, and geranium. The back shows a porticoed country seat surrounded by woods with a family of deer posing in the foreground. The space below the scene is filled with mannerist arabesques. Frame is a bold convex band ending either side in relief acanthus leaf terminals. The chain is looped through 2 tiny barrels to form a double-chain grasp. Lined with ivory-glazed cotton.

Tiny purse mounted on a raised brass frame with push-pin closure. Beads knitted on white cotton. The knob at the bottom of the opal beads on the dark thread so they appear blue. Lined with a white kid. Design of rose and johnny-jump-up vine on opalescent ground, lower border of intensely dark amethyst transparent beads, and pale pink opaque ones.

Purse made of rusty peach velvet. Embellished with cut steel beads. Large semi-circular steel frame studded with graduated, faceted rivets. Push button closure; chain handle. Round bottom bordered with two bands of triangles above the looped fringe. The field has scattered linear motifs. Lined pink silk satin.

Knit and crocheted miser's purse made of green silk accented with red and pink. Crystal and cut steel beads knit in paisley design, (white silk behind the steel beads). Fringe of interlaced strands of various-sized steel beads; molded steel sliders. Opaque green beads on the knob on one end.

Beaded purse with partial lining made of maroon and gold cotton print. Long and narrow. Blue and gold plied drawstring. Floral design. Opal, clear red, dark green, turquoise, blue, grey, sky blue, dark yellow, black, pink, and white beads. Apparently cut down from a standard size.

Pinchbeck frame with floral pattern, to which is attached a finely netted maroon silk pouch. Knot and tassel at base. Unlined. Stitched together with the same thread.

Black silk taffeta miser’s bag with black glass or jet beads embroidered and applied as fringe. Entirely hand stitched. Two metal sliders covered with black silk and beads. Lined with ivory cotton sateen; one square, one round end.

Reticule mounted on a silver frame with cornucopia at sides, engraved: “Anna E. Dorwart” on front, and “Elizabeth Heitshu” on back. Silver chain. Olive green silk crocheted openwork at top, knit elsewhere with steel beads forming rows of paisley-esque cone motifs and chevrons. Solid at base. 2 cones and bead tassels at base. No lining.

Purse made of small units formed like Ojos de Dios, alternately pink/peach silk thread and metallic silver (gold, too?). Pinchbeck frame of berries and leaves. Bead with tassel at base. No lining.

"Small round bottom purse with stamped brass frame. “Aus Liebe” over band of red flowers with leaves. Opal ground, turquoise base. Pink silk lining. Sewn to canvas ground.

"Purse with a polished steel rectangular frame with cut corners. Abalone shell with steel ‘sprigs’ riveted on. One says “Souvenir.” Pivoting clip closure. Faded red or pink silk compartments inside. One edged with steel rim but no evidence of clip.

Purse with steel frame with arched top. Abalone shell with oil painted pink floral design. 3 sided-link brass chain. Push tab closure. Red thin leather interior with 3 compartments.

Small beaded purse with top forming two extending flaps which are presently closed with modern-type snaps. 7” chain formed of long and short brass links attached inside top. Sides slant inwards slightly; rounded bottom finished with varicolored bead looped fringe. Flaps have multicolored stripes; One side has wreath enclosing a rainbow and the initials JDS. Other side has rows of florets, garland at bottom, and unintelligible lettering on transparent ground. Lined with coarse PW white cotton; soiled pink silk on flaps. Designs are rather crude.

"Purse with 4 bombe sides; flat top or lid. White silk over paste board. Each side, top and bottom are painted with dainty picture of basket of strawberries. Edges of each panel finished with pale silk ribbon; same ribbon forms little bows at each corner of opening and two loop handlea anchored front and back in the bows. Closed with pink silk plied cord loop and pink silk-covered disk button.About 5” deep."

Miser’s bag of crocheted maroon silk with central section of netting studded with steel beads; steel beads forming a geometric pattern on the large, squared end, and a vine on the smaller pointed end; netted bead fringe on the first and bead tassel on the second. Steel sliding rings. 12” total length.

Small purse of beads stitched to plain weave cotton foundation, forming design with a vine in 2 shades of green with red and pink florets across the top, a row of odd sky-blue paisley buta-like motifs across the bottom, and rows of yellow dots across opalescent field; narrow yellow band across base. Lined with small-checked brown/green/white silk taffeta. Narrow brass frame stamped with orderly vine in low-relief; standard tiny pin-like catch.

Tiny crocheted silk purse with a stamped gilt brass frame with chain handle. Gilt brass acorn pendant at the base. Bands of red, pink, and tan, with openwork midsection made of metallic gold thread.

Cut steel purse framed with fancy steel chain and ring for chatelaine, possibly. Deep purse in tan silk hand-knitted with lengthwise ribs with steel beads forming stripes. Twisted loop bead fringe at the base and long tassels at each side formed of the same beads and long flat ones.
