The organ is operated by pumping the two foot pedals below, which operate the bellows. When a key is pressed, streams of air are sent to the reeds inside the instrument, making them vibrate. There is one reed for each key. Pulling and pushing the stops on the reed organ will turn on or off different reed sets.
