One painted and stenciled rocking chair made by Charles Robinson, of Rochester, NY. The paint is faux rosewood, with streaked red and black paint. The top rail has a curved shape that is outlined with gold paint, and there is a painted rosette in each corner and a cluster of fruit in the center. The back of the rail is stamped "Robinson/Rochester NY" into the wood (partially illegible). Each spindle has gold paint accents at the top and bottom of each. The round stiles have a gold painted leaf at the top and a simple band at the bottom. The seat is outlined with a thin band of gold paint and a panel with clipped corners is painted on the center front edge of the seat. A rounded piece of wood was added to the underside of the seat to make the front edge rounded. The front legs and stretcher are turned with gold accents. The rear legs and side/rear stretchers are round with no gold paint. The rockers are narrow.
