Chemisette
Object/Artifact
Hand stitched linen chemisette (or bodice?) with very narrow back, very high waist. Top front looks as if it once had scoop neckline now pieced in. Front overlap opening. Sleeves - mere tubes - made of fine white cotton embroidered with diagonal waving lines in French knots, bullion stitches etc with leaf border having openings filled with net. They appear to have been salvaged from another garment and clumsily installed. The embroidery, while suitably scaled, It continues into the seams which would seem a terrible waste of embroidering effort. There is no lining, but the piece is hemmed neatly.
