Dress

Object/Artifact

3-piece dress made of deep red-violet moire or watered silk. Trimmed with deep red-violet velvet bands and hand made lace edging.a) Bodice, boned, lined with white lining cambric; high round neck with band collar, ‘coat’ sleeves, velvet-covered convex buttons. Band of ribbon around armscye and another forming angled shape over shoulder; one around sleeve edge and another forms deep cufflike curve above. Each band anchors an inward-facing black lace edging, doubled on the shoulder band.b) Skirt opens LF, pleated, smooth over front; long rounded train. Pocket RF. Above front hem are 3 parallel bands of ribbon curved up at the side where they interlace and angle downward. 2 similar bands around the back. Interlined with light tarlatan. Train faced with brown glazed lining cambric. Hem edged faced with matching wool bias tape.c) Matching belt has a covering of black lace and matching flat flower closure.2) Pelerine-fichu of black hand made Chantilly lace. Probably intended for an evening bodice.
