Object/Artifact

Entirely hand stitched sewing rollup, all in pale yellow silk thread. Outside is dark olive silk, inside is faded purple silk except for an ivory silk pocket at the end. The center portion has long narrow channels for skeined thread. The other end has a pointed flap with a buttonhole, lined with ivory silk and covering a pocket with a covered bone disk button. Beneath this flap is a double, scalloped red wool flap for storing needle. One needle present, very thin and springy. The edges are buttonhole stitched, and the ivory flap is decorated with an embroidered circular design; the other one has borders, and the initial A, above the year 1799.
