Clothing/Dress/Costume

Paisley-type shawl, twill woven. Ivory field within quasi-architectural border of compartments containing bouquets in compotes, and mandala-like designs. Square design in the center surrounded by 8 minor motifs; small butas adjoining the inner border of flower spikes. 1/2” gates on the ends, tapestry-joined; the silk warp ends remain nearly in mint condition. Silk warp space-dyed to accommodate the variously colored compartments, and the gates. Weft colors are apple green and gold which appear to be silk, and bright red, black, lavender-gray and white which appear to be cotton or wool. Reverse is very well clipped. About 60” square.
