James Vick (1818-1882) immigrated from England and established himself in the printing trade. His interest in horticulture led him to buy The Horticulturist which he moved to Rochester in 1853. He began his seed and nursery company shortly after. With his knowledge of printing and chromolithography he began to produce a seed catalogue and magazine with beautiful high-quality lithographs that are still prized by collectors today.
