Cradle

Object/Artifact

Convertible, Sheraton style six-spindle Boston cradle/rocker painted black with red graining and simple harp. Top two slats are removable as one piece; the left side of the chair seat pulls out, complete with the three-spindle scroll arm. Once the seat is enlarged by this 8 1/16", the removable top of the chair fits into two holes on the front of the scroll seat, creating a cradle. Stencil in black on bottom of seat: "S.S. MAY/ PATENT JUNE 4, 1850".
