Clothing/Dress/Costume
Pair of women's oxford-style boots of light green wool sateen, faced with off-white leather, and lined with cotton canvas. Top edge is cut in a wavy line and topstitched. Lace down center front with green cotton lace through 25 pairs of metal eyelets. Squared toe; straight sole with black-dyed and tooled instep and stacked heel. One shoe has "18[?]4" written on the sole in pencil; the other has a sticker on the heel reading "McKay Lew. Mach. Association / 2 / 567170 / Pat. Aug. 14 / 1860." Both are embossed on the sole with "N. J. H & P Byrnes / Rochester, NY". Machine sewn.
