Gown, Dressing

Object/Artifact

Entirely hand stitched white cotton robe. High waistline, surplice front with ‘peter pan’ collar. Underarm seam. Tiny pleats at neck and waist seam in bodice front allow for bust. Long, straight skirt with gored side panels, fullness concentrated across back. Very long slim sleeves with some fullness at top, rather deeply set into bodice. Self tab buttons around wrist with Dorset button. Collar, front edge, hem and sleeve ends finished with self frill. Self ties attached at side waist. Two narrow linen tape ties remain on skirt front edges- one on left at bottom and one on right at center. Made for a tall woman with very slender frame- very small back and shoulders.
