Entirely hand stitched dress or robe, open all the way down. Vaguely shaped smooth bodice with wide neckline, not skillfully stitched. Inset waistband, bottom part of back section made into casing carrying an apple green silk flat braid drawstring emerging at the sides. Long tubular sleeves with some fullness at the top back. Skirt gathered onto waistband evenly all around. Lower part of the skirt has 4 small brown bone turned buttons that fit into small tabs on the underside of the opposite skirt panel. Lined with what appears to be an indigo blue ground cylinder-printed with a resist vine pattern, and over-dyed with a raised mineral blue that has responded to contact with a perspiring back. Also there are two tiny eyelets inside the center back above the waist. It appears the dress was altered by adding the waistband. Early cylinder print (brown) typical of the 20s. A good DIY inexpensive garment, probably what she wore in the morning while doing chores.
