Invitation

Object/Artifact

An invitation printed on cotton calico fabric announcing a "Calico and Neck Tie Ball" at Howard's Hall, Avalon, Tuesday Evening, March 10, 1885. The invitation in cut and not bound on the edges. The invitation in printed with small red dots with lines, and dotted black lines. Playful. The invitation sates that admission is 74 cents, and supper is 50 cents. Music is by Drake and Gudgell Bands. The invitation lists the members of different committees that helped organize and manage the event itself: Invitation: Will Leeper, Avalon, Wm. Dudley, Hale., and Bob. Stewart, Chillicothe. Reception: Frank Riley, F.M. Howard, Burt Moon. Floor Manager: Harry Rohrer and John Line. The invitation fabric has a few stains - one circular, some blue marks on the bottom left edge, and a brown stain across the body of the invitation. The invitation is cut without being bound - edges are fraying in spots.
