Geared for grades 2-12
This guided tour explores the world of STEM – from simple machines to 19th century currency, to ratios and math needed to change recipes in the kitchens. Students will use modern day methods to solve 19th century problems.
Groups will rotate through a series of 7 stations that include:
- Watch colors change before your eyes as you learn the science behind dyeing wool to make colorful yarn
- De-code a message in the telegraph office
- Practice your math skills in a historic kitchen as you manipulate a historic “receipt” to make the right amount of food to feed people coming to dinner.
- Move your body using 19th century calisthenics to understand how movement became a health trend for upper class women.
- Expereince how items were bought and traded in a 19th century general store using 19th century money!.
- Learn how women in the 19th century were allowed to practice science. Alongside a visiting artist, from the Memorial Art Gallery, you will practice your botanical art skills.
Other Details:
Due to limited availability, we enforce a 1:10 ratio of adult to student. (Adults include school staff and parents/guardian chaperones)
- Schools must arrive between 9:45 – 10:15
Schools will be divided into groups of no more than 30 students and adults. Schools will be charged at a rate of $250/group.
