War! What is it Good For?

May 15, 2026 (9:30AM-1PM)

Geared for Grades 4 – 12, based on the New York State curriculum and programming concepts.
Our young nation was engaged in many conflicts throughout the 19th century, including countless wars between colonizers and indigenous groups, the War of 1812, John Brown’s Raid, and the American Civil War. Understand how these nation-wide events impacted the people who lived in Upstate New York.
Were ideas and motives altered? Were the rights and citizenship of Americans changed? Was the family structure disrupted? Were jobs, technologies, and transportation methods impacted? Explore the village on this day as we delve into these many conflicts and their impact on our local area.
This self-guided field trip features timed programming throughout the Historic Village. Plan for 2-3 hours on site.
