Nature Discoveries

Various weekdays in September – November & April – June.

Grades K – 12.

During this guided field trip, your class will rotate through hands-on activities, a nature walk, a live animal presentation, and games. The program includes similar elements at any point of the year, but is tweaked to fit the season and the weather.

Spring – All about amphibians and reptiles! During this field trip, students will venture into the woods, along our Web of Life trail to learn about the seasonal plants and animals waking up from the cold winter, visit a vernal pond, and look for salamanders. They will meet our resident turtles in the Nature Center, learn about the life cycle and evolutionary adaptations of a frog, use aquatic nets to discover what is hiding beneath the surface of ponds – salamanders, frogs, tadpoles, turtles, bugs, and plants, and play a salamander migration game.

Fall – Engage with the changing seasons and learn how flora and fauna of all kinds prepare for winter. We will cover an animal’s life cycle, physical evolutionary adaptations, and the biodiversity in our local landscape. This program includes a 1 mile walk and pond dipping.

Plan for approximately 2.5 hours for this program. All field trip groups will be assigned an indoor location to store and eat their lunches, if they don’t want to picnic outside. For a list of available days, curriculum connections, or to book this program – just click the button!
